Definition

3GL

Third Generation Language

Term that covers computer programming languages such as C, C++ and Pascal.

4GL

Fourth Generation Language

Term that covers computer programming languages that have commands that are aware of the meaning of the data they operate on. Ozterm provides some 4GL commands for manipulating network elements.

AXE

Exchange

Ericsson NE.

B-Module

 

Part of the system documentation for AXE Exchanges – which contains the command and printout descriptions.

COM

Component Object Model

Microsoft’s component object architecture, a binary standard that defines an interface for communication between COM objects.

DCAP

 

Server that provides access to mobilenet NEs.

DOS

Disk Operating System

Most commonly MS-DOS (Microsoft DOS), this OS ran Ozterm 6.x and prior releases.

GUI

Graphical User Interface

Graphical Interface, typically Microsoft Windows™ environment that allows the user to interact without text based commands. Successor of command line interface.

Hex

Hexadecimal

The numbering format used most commonly by computers and computer programmers. Base 16.

HTML

Hyper-text Markup Language

Meta-language standardised for use on the Internet. Allows documents to contain both content and formatting that may be viewed in a standard way in any HTML compliant Internet browser.

NEAS

Network Element Access System

This is a TCP/IP (telnet) to X.25 gateway which provides basic user authentication.

NE

Network Element

Any physical element incorporated into a connected communications network. Eg. Router, exchange, PC.

OS

Operating System

The software that interfaces between your hardware and the applications that you are running.

OVM

Ozterm Virtual Machine

Software library that provides a compiler and runtime engine for a 3GL / 4GL scripting language based heavily on the Ozterm command language.

SCR

System Change Request

Request for Known Wozterm Bug to be fixed.

TCP/IP

Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol

Industry standard Intranet / Internet communications protocol.

UNIX

UNIX Operating System

Multi-user OS designed for networked usage. Used commonly as a server OS.

VT100

DEC proprietary terminal

Industry standard terminal emulation mode supported by most terminal emulation software, including Wozterm.

WIN32

Windows 32-bit Application

Describes an application designed to run using a 32-bit architecture on the Windows™ Operating System.
