Definitions

The following words, acronyms and abbreviations are referred to in this document.

Term Definition

OVM

Ozterm Virtual Machine - Software library that provides a compiler, and runtime engine for a 3GL / 4GL scripting language based heavily on the Ozterm command language.

3GL

3rd Generation Langauge - Term that covers computer programming languages such a C, C++ and Pascal.

4GL

4th Generation Language – Term that covers computer programming languages that have commands that are aware of the meaning of the data they operate on. Ozterm provides some 4GL commands for manipulating network elements.

LHS

Left Hand Side. Used to indicate the left hand side of an expression. In the line @set a = 1 + 2 the letter ‘a’ is the LHS.

RHS

Right Hand Side. Used to indicate the right hand side of an expression. In the line @set a = 1 + 2 the expression 1+ 2 is the RHS.

Stdin

The default input stream provided by most operating systems to C / C++ applications.

Stdout

The default output stream provided by most operating systems to C / C++ applications.

Command.

The keyword is a command.

Integer Function.

The keyword is a function that returns an integer value.

@set number = RANDOM(100)

Boolean Function.

The keyword is a function that returns a boolean value.

@if CHECKSTATE() then

String Function.

The keyword is a function that returns a string value.

@set alphabet = CONCAT("abcdefghijkl","mnopqrstuvwxyz")

Operator.

The keyword is an operator (It is used within an expression).

@set done = gotachar OR timedout

Reserved Word.

The keyword has special meaning to one or more commands or functions.

@set whichcol = strpos(fullpath,".",LAST)

The keyword takes no parameters. Note that functions still require the () after the function name when used.

@logon, argcount()

Label name

The name of an @label label-name must be supplied without quotes. Some commands that require label names do not use ().

@label fred
@check(on,fred)
@goto fred

Integer expression

The parameter can be an expression that returns an integer value.

random(100)

Boolean expression

The parameter can be an expression that returns a boolean value.

@check(on)

String expression

The parameter can be an expression that returns a string value.

@setdest("EDSX")

Integer variable

The parameter must be the name of a simple integer variable previously defined with the @integer command. The value stored in the integer variable may be changed by the command or function.

@integer a1
getdate(a1)

Boolean variable

The parameter must be the name of a simple boolean variable previously defined with the @boolean command. The value stored in the boolean variable may be changed by the command or function.

 

String variable

The parameter must be the name of a simple string variable previously defined with the @string command. The value stored in the string variable may be changed by the command or function.

getdate

0 or more expressions

0 or more expressions returning any type separated by commas can be given. When more than 1 parameter is supplied subsequent parameters do not need to be of the same type.

@comment
@comment(1,’a’,on)

0 or more expressions of previous type

0 or more expressions all returning the same type as the previous parameters can be given. When more than 1 parameter is given they must all return the same type.

@string fred=’jane’
inset(fred,’mary’,’jane’)

‘keyword’

The specified keyword without quotes must be given.

@draw(box,1,1,5,5)
