CFE AXE Protocol & Bch Monitor Help
                   -----------------------------------

HELP FOR THE PROTOCOL& Bch MONITOR MENU
---------------------------------------

A. AXE provides full support to view the performance of the customer's
D channel Link Layer (L2) and limited support for the Network Layer
(L3). Layer 3 is limited to detecting abnormal call handling by
tracking selected signalling events (RELEASE, DISCONNECT & STATUS)
with a defined range of cause codes.

The cause codes tracked currently are those indicated protocol
(signalling) problems and are selected from the range 81 to 111.

B. AXE also allows passive and active (listen and speak) monitoring
on customer B channels. OCFE automates these tasks by batching
       the necessary commands.

C. There is also some protocol information after teh key
descriptions. (What faults the AXE tests for)

D. These notes are to explain each key function and its use.

Additional Protocol Information (Decoded automatically by OCFE)
_______________________________________________________________

1. The AXE looks for certain layer 2 fault types, they are as follows:

       (1) DM frames recd as response to SABME indicates NT did not
           establish successfully.

       (2) Proper response (UA or DM) not received to establish link
after N200 SABME were frames sent.

       (3) Frames received with a control field that is undefined or
           not implemented.

       (4) Frames recd with information field not permitted or a
Supervision or unumbered frame with wrong length.

       (5) Frames recd with an invalid sequence number N(R).

       (6) FRMR frame received

       (7) The max number of retransmissions (N200) is reached on
           any other frame than SABME.

       (8) DM frames sent in response to a SABME received
-indicates TE did not establish link successfully.

       (9) Unexpected frame (frames occuring at the wrong time).

       (10) Invalid frames received (other than those containing
            a FCS error.

       (11) Frames received with an information field that exeeds the
            maximum establishe length.

2. The AXE looks for certain abnormal layer 3 cause codes received with
Release, Disconnect or Status messages, they are as follows:

       (1) C/C 81 Invalid call reference value!
       (2) C/C 82 Identified channel does not exist!
       (3) C/C 83 A suspended call exists but this identity does not!
       (4) C/C 84 Call identity in use!
       (5) C/C 85 No call suspended!
       (6) C/C 86 Call having the requested identity has been cleared!
       (7) C/C 88 Incompatible destination!
       (8) C/C 95 Invalid message unspecified!
       (9) C/C 96 Mandatory information element missing!
       (10) C/C 97 Message type non existant or not implemented!
       (11) C/C 98 Message not compatible with call state or msg type NE or NI!
       (12) C/C 99 Information element non existant or not implemented!
       (13) C/C 100 Invalid information element content!
       (14) C/C 101 Message not compatible with call state!
       (15) C/C 102 Recovery on timer expiry!
       (16) C/C 111 Protocol error unspecified!
